Couples Escape: Back to Basics Wilderness Retreat

Looking for a truly unique experience to reconnect with your partner? Join us for a three-day, two-night primitive camping retreat designed to help you rediscover each other through nature, adventure, and guided therapy.

• May 2-4
• June 27-29
• July 11-13
• August 15-17
• September 5-7
• October 3-5

Only six couples per session will be chosen, so early registration is key!

Cost: $700 per couple
• 50% deposit required at registration
• Remaining 50% due 30 days before your event date

🌿 What’s Included:
• Six hours of couples therapy: Experience activities focused on communication skills, Sensate Focus training, sensual touching, love languages, and mindfulness.
• Three-hour canoe rental on Lake of the Ozarks in a serene cove on the 47 mile marker.
• Daily meals: Provided in a cooler with everything you need to cook and enjoy meals together.
• Team-Building Experiences: Set up your camp, build your fire, and work together to cook and navigate the outdoors.

By the end of this weekend, you’ll take home new skills in communication, an understanding of each other’s love languages, and a renewed appreciation for your partner—all while reigniting the love between you.

Reignite your connection in nature—escape back to basics with us!

Here’s a detailed, tentative schedule for the Couples Escape:

Friday

   •   10:00 AM – Arrival & Welcome: Gather at the designated meeting area to receive supplies, schedules, and find campsite locations. Tents will be provided; please bring your own bedding and personal hygiene items.

   •   11:00 AM – Meal Prep & Cooking Together: Coolers with recipe options and all necessary dishes will be provided. Guests will cook together, with a meal plan available upon request.

   •   12:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Free Time: Explore the area, set up your space, or relax.

   •   2:00 PM – Group Therapy Session #1: Meet at the designated area for a 2-hour session focused on communication, led by a licensed therapist.

   •   4:00 PM – Free Time & Dinner Prep: Enjoy free time or use the dock for swimming. Prepare dinner with provided supplies and recipe options if desired.

Saturday

   •   6:30 AM – Clean Dish Delivery: Hosts will pick up dirty dishes from the night before and provide clean ones for the day.

   •   Canoe Schedule:

      •   8:00 – 11:00 AM

      •   11:30 AM – 2:30 PM

      •   3:00 – 6:00 PM

Each couple has a scheduled three-hour canoe time. You’re welcome to use it as long as you like within this timeframe.

   •   Free Time Options: Enjoy activities like hiking, rock hunting, or swimming, or use the host-provided bonding exercises.

   •   7:00 PM – Group Therapy Session #2: Gather for a 2-hour session focused on Sensate Focus and sensual touch. Couples will receive a supply basket for exercises to practice back at their campsite.

Sunday

   •   6:30 AM – Clean Dish Delivery & New Activities: Hosts will distribute clean dishes and new bonding activities.

   •   2:00 PM – Final Group Therapy Session: Focus on love languages—discovering your own and your partner’s, learning to meet each other’s needs, and expressing your own needs.

   •   3:30 PM – Satisfaction Questionnaire & Skill Review: Reflect on the skills and insights gained during the weekend.

   •   4:00 PM – Pack-Up Together: Return to your campsite to pack up and take down your tent as a team.

   •   6:00 PM – Departure: Wrap up your experience and head home with new insights and a stronger connection.

This retreat is structured to balance therapeutic work, free time, and activities to help you and your partner reconnect and enjoy the beautiful outdoors together.

Starting in May, we will have a new clinician Erika Harmon BSW as an intern, while she works through her master’s program in Social Work.

Hello! My name is Erika. I have an Associates of Arts degree in Social Work and will have my Bachelor of Social Work in May of 2024. I interned at Kids Harbor in 2024 from January to May, where I advocated for children and families providing resources to the families. I am a mom to 3 kids and married to my high school sweetheart. I love helping others and have a passion for Social Work. I have always been involved in the community and I can’t wait to gain this experience at Sheppard Counseling!
